Only some Manuka Honey has the chemical marker it high levels. UMF® stands for ‘Unique Manuka Factor’, a measure of the unique levels of MG (methylglyoxal) which is naturally present at varying levels in honey made from the nectar of the Manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium), native to New Zealand.

The mark UMF® is followed by a number that indicates the strength of the UMF® activity in a batch of UMF® Manuka Honey. The higher the UMF® rating, the more potent the product.

Several months ago my 7 yr old daughter was diagnosed with having   H.Pylori - by definition; Helicobacter pylori, previously Campylobacter pylori, is a gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium found usually in the stomach. It was identified in 1982 by Australian scientists Barry Marshall and Robin Warren, who found that it was present in a person with chronic gastritis and gastric ulcers, conditions not previously believed to have a microbial cause. It is also linked to the development of duodenal ulcers and stomach cancer. However, over 80% of individuals infected with the bacterium are asymptomatic, and it may play an important role in the natural stomach ecology.

At first we tried treating it with a  2 week double dose of antibiotics but this did not work...when we were told we needed to increase the dosage we declined. Instead I began to research alternative healing methods and found that Raw Manuka Honey appeared to be a viable solution...Upon further research I also learned that Happy Valley was globally ranked as producing some of the best Manuka Honey products in the world and  this, coupled with the fact that they also produce a product with the adequate UMF rating (18+) recommended to treat H. Pylori. I decided to purchase the UMF 18+ Manuka Honey for my daughter. The treatment consisted of placing 1 teaspoon of this 18+ manuka honey on a piece of bread or banana, 2 to 3 times per day for four months. We took her in to be tested again for H.Pylori after the four month period and the results came out negative!
